White torture

The White Martyr in the Ebersberger Forest , east of Munich, is a historical wayside shrine . The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation lists them under monument number D-1-75-115-45.

Location

The White Marter is located on the side of the road, near a field in the Swabian wood of the Ebersberger Forest. The location is on the northern edge of the municipality of the city of Ebersberg . Not far is the state road 2080 between Ebersberg and Schwaberwegen .

description

The Marter is a slender pillar with a cross relief and a niche top made of tuff and dates from the 16th century.

The remains of painted pictures can be found in the three niches. The niche on the front, facing east, shows a picture of Jesus , between two palm trees in the dungeon, tied with chains to a rock.

In the left niche you can see a picture of the town of Ebersberg, as a traveler sees the town if he continues in this direction and reaches the town via Ludwigshöhe . Saint Sebastian , the patron saint of the city, hovers in the sky above the city , whose skull is kept as a relic in the church of St. Sebastian and has made the city a place of pilgrimage.

In the right niche is the scene in which St. Hubertus , the patron saint of the hunt, sees the stag with the crucifix . If you follow the state road in this direction, you will pass the Hubertus Chapel in the forest , but the oldest mention of it dates back to 1783.
