Wei Guoqing ( Chinese  韋國清 , Pinyin Wéi Guóqīng ; born September 2, 1913 , † June 14, 1989 ) was a Chinese officer with the rank of general and an official of the CPC .

career

Wei Guonqing was born in 1913 into a Zhuangethnie family in Guangxi Province . Wei Guoqing joined the People's Liberation Army in 1929 at the age of 16 . Two years later he became a party member. During the Long March he was promoted to battalion and finally regimental commander. In 1944 he became commander of a division. In August 1950 he crossed the border into Indochina as head of a military advisory mission with 250 officers to support the Viet Minh in the war against France . After the war, Wei Guoqing was governor of his home province from 1955 to 1975. From 1977 to 1982 he was a member of the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army. From 1969 to 1987 he was a member of the Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party.
