Weimar Schiller Club

The Weimarer Schillerverein e. V. , which was constituted in Weimar after the fall of the Wall in 1991 , emerged from the Friedrich Schiller Central Working Group, which was founded in 1970 in the Kulturbund of the GDR . It is a legally independent subsidiary of the Marbach German Schiller Society and is represented on its committee.

The aim of the association is, in close cooperation with the Marbach parent company and the Klassik Stiftung Weimar , to keep Schiller's legacy and classical German literature alive. Furthermore (according to the statutes) "the mediation of his work through scientific institutions, schools, theaters and modern media" should be promoted, in direct succession to the intentions of the original Friedrich Schiller Central Working Group . This has been happening since the 1970s, especially at the Weimar Schiller Days , which take place annually in November, and which focus on theater visits and scientific lectures by well-known Schiller researchers. During the Schiller Days, annual editions of works by or about Schiller were published for the members of the working group during the GDR period, most of which were published by the Insel publishing houses (including 5 titles in the Insel-Bücherei ) and Aufbau .
