The vineyard is a 254.9 m high elevation and is located in the corridor of the city of Werra-Suhl-Tal in the Wartburg district in Thuringia . In terms of nature, the vineyard belongs to the Werra Valley and the Seulingswald . The northern part is used for agriculture.
The vineyard was settled early on. A pilgrimage chapel "Bei den Drei Linden" existed on the western slope until the 16th century. In the High Middle Ages, the southern slope was probably used as a vineyard and was provided with a guard post. The mountain offers a panoramic view over the Hessian-Thuringian border area. This was also the reason for the construction of a hotel and a new housing estate on the northern outskirts. A telecommunications mast has been located on the eastern slope since the early 1980s.
A section of the state road L 2117 leads across the vineyard to Großensee .
