In June 2009, the Balthasar Ress winery established a vineyard in Germany's northernmost wine village Keitum on Sylt .

development

The family-run winery was founded in Hattenheim in 1870 by Balthasar Ress. The focus of the company at that time was on gastronomy, first with its own inn, from 1894 on the Hotel Ress in the Kronenschlösschen . Our own wines from our very small winery were served in our own restaurant.

After the First World War , Carl Ress integrated the winery business into the company. The winery was housed in what is now the old manor house. For a time, the entire production of the then very famous and large Freiherr Langwerth von Simmern winery was bottled and marketed there. This strategic orientation towards the winery and trade continues to have an effect today.

In 1947 the winery still had less than three hectares of vineyards. Under Paul Ress, this vineyard area was continuously increased. In 1950, a winery in Rüdesheim with vineyards in Rüdesheimer Berg and gastronomy in Drosselgasse was acquired. In 1957 the Hasensprung - Joachim Bäumer winery , which was active in export, was bought.

Son Stefan Ress mainly continued the development of the winery. The winery and winery were separated into two companies. The vineyard area was expanded to today's level through purchase and lease. The monopoly Schloss Reichartshausen and extensive areas in Hallgarten were added. In 1989 the company was included in the VDP. In 1993, Stefan Ress became chairman of the regional association of the VDP and in 2010 Rheingau wine-growing president.

Christian Ress, the son of Stefan Ress and now the 5th generation in the family business, started working in the family winery in 1999 after various professional positions at home and abroad, became co-owner in 2004 with his father and finally took over the management in 2010 of operational business. He is continuously expanding the winery.

The Balthasar Ress winery attracts attention again and again with high-profile projects: In 2009 a vineyard was laid out in Keitum on Sylt . In the same year the wineBank was opened in the cellar of the old manor house, where wine is stored in rented compartments of various sizes. The concept is being marketed as a franchise at home and abroad.

In 2018, Christian Ress transferred the oenological and viticultural management of the winery to the operations manager Oliver Schmid, who has succeeded Dirk Würtz.
