Soils and grape varieties

The terroir of the vineyards in the Styrian Vulkanland is characterized by calcareous sedimentary soils from the Tertiary (Sarmat gravel, sandstone, shell limestone) and the influence of Pannonian and Illyrian mixed climates.

The winery is managed by Christoph Neumeister. The vineyards, which have been organically cultivated since 2013, have a vineyard area of 31 hectares (as of 2020). Another four hectares are allotted to contract growers. 89 percent are planted with white varieties, mainly with Riesling , Sauvignon Blanc , Morillon , Pinot Gris , Pinot Blanc , Gewurztraminer and Muscat . The premium vineyards of the winery include Klausen and Steintal (Erste STK vineyards) as well as Moarfeitl and Saziani (large STK vineyards). The soils are sedimentary soils from the Tertiary with a lot of limestone and gravel, some of volcanic origin.

Others

In addition to the winery, the Neumeister family also runs the Saziani Stub'n & Saziani G'Wölb restaurants and the “Schlafgut” Saziani hotel.
