Weingut am Stein
The Weingut am Stein was founded in 1890 by the Knoll family in Würzburg . The family was active in the cooper's trade and at that time ran viticulture as a sideline. It was not until 1980, when viticulture had grown stronger, that the family moved to the foot of the Würzburger Stein. Sandra and Ludwig Knoll have been running the estate in the fifth generation since the 1990s. The structural redesign of the traditional winery in 2005 was a conscious act for the winemaker: “We chose the architecture to express the style of our wines in the shape of the buildings. We no longer make wines that are baroque or playful, it's all very modern and straightforward. ”A ten by ten meter cube was created by the architects Hofmann Keicher and Ring. The architecture is simple: wood, glass and exposed concrete, rooms and floors are open, doors have largely been dispensed with. The inside and outside world merge in the large window areas.
