The Weinstraße 5 building in the small town of Deidesheim in the Palatinate is a former winegrower's villa from the late 19th century. It is located on the German Wine Route and is a cultural monument according to the State of Rhineland-Palatinate's Monument Protection Act .

history

The villa was built in 1890 according to plans by the architect Fr. Huber for the later Bavarian Councilor Eugen Buhl . From 1901 the winery of the brothers Fritz and Henry Eckel was located here. The winery was one of the most important in the German Empire. However, as a result of the First World War, it ran into considerable difficulties under the leadership of the heirs and was re-established by Albert Bürklin in 1939/40. From 1995 to 2005 the villa housed the sparkling wine cellar at the tower. The building is currently empty.

The villa is a late historical , two-storey building made of sandstone. It has a hipped roof , the roof terrace of which is accessible. The facade facing the Wine Route is in the style of the Italian High Renaissance , the other sides are provided with asymmetrical elements in the style of Wilhelminian style villas. A monogram with the initials of the client, Eugen Buhl, is embedded above the entrance . The villa, which gained national fame through mentions in architecture magazines, is one of the most important winegrowers' villas along the German Wine Route in terms of quality and quality .

The building has a garden plot with a wall facing Niederkircher Strasse - with a drilled garden gate - from the 18th century. There is also a small, rectangular garden shed built by J. P. Jordan in 1789.
