Albert Bürklin (association official)

Albert Bürklin (born August 24, 1907 in Wachenheim ; † October 2, 1979 ibid) was a German winemaker and functionary in numerous agricultural and viticulture organizations.

Life

Bürklin's father was Ludwig Bürklin, his mother Paula Bürklin, née Neuffer. Father Ludwig, a nephew of Albert Bürklin (1844–1924) , a member of the Reichstag , died on the Somme in 1918 during the First World War . Since his great-uncle remained childless, Bürklin took over the Dr. Bürklin-Wolf in Wachenheim.

In 1937 Bürklin became chairman of the Association of Natural Wine Auctioneers of the Rhine Palatinate (today VDP-Palatinate). During the Second World War, Bürklin was drafted into the Wehrmacht. After the war, he had to rebuild his business, which had been badly damaged by acts of war, and was involved in the establishment of several local and regional wine-growing organizations. From 1949 to 1969 Bürklin acted as the first chairman of the Association of German Natural Wine Auctioneers (today the Association of German Predicate and Quality Wineries ) and from 1949 to 1974 as Vice President of the German Viticulture Association and was then made an honorary member. In 1967 Bürklin was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his achievements . In 1970 he was appointed economics councilor by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Agriculture from 1970 to 1975 .

The German Wine Seal as a quality mark for German wines was essentially created on his initiative. At the international level, Bürklin represented German viticulture at the International Wine Office in Paris and at the Viticulture Commission for the European market.
