Weitzschen (desert)

Weitzschen is a deserted area on the corridor of Döhlen (district of Freital ).

It is located between the towns of Döhlen and Burgk . There was a mill here, which is why the place was mentioned around 1400 as "(a mill) in Wyczen". In 1461 the place was called “the Weitzschen hoofs” and in 1552 it is said that “vber der Weyseritz ahn den Weytzschen hoofs”. The basic rule exercised in 1560 the manor Gauernitz from. The place was parish after Döhlen. In 1574 a "Benedix Fleischer auf der Weitzsche" was named, and in 1640 the place was named "Zue Niederheselich ( Niederhäslich ) Weizschhuefe". In the years 1681 and 1791 the name variants "Weitzschhuffen" and "Weitzschhufen" are still mentioned.

Today Neudöhlen is located on Weitzschen's former corridor. The last remaining building in Weitzschen was probably the Rote Mühle , which was demolished in 1937 .
