Welferding

Welferding ( German : Wölferdingen , Lorraine: Welferdinge ) is a district of Sarreguemines ( France ) in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ), two kilometers northwest of the city center.

history

The place was founded by Benedictine monks from Tholey Abbey (near St. Wendel ). The monastery exercised patronage over the parish of Wölferdingen (Welferding) until the French Revolution . The church loan of the Diocese of Verdun (Eng .: hosts) was transferred to the Counts of Blieskastel in the 12th century . The Metz bishopric received sovereignty from King Otto I in 960 and sold it to the Archbishopric of Trier in 1326 . The elector Karl Kaspar von der Leyen (1651–1676) gave the rule of Blieskastel to his brother Hugo Ernst von der Leyen as a fief . In 1781 Count Philipp Franz von der Leyen handed over sovereignty over the places Wölferdingen, Bliesschweyen , Bliesbrück (Bliesbruck) and Wustweiler (Wustviller) to France and received it back as a fiefdom under the name "Baronie de Welferding". In 1784 he sold the barony to the Comte de Vergennes Charles Gravier (French Foreign Minister from 1774 to 1787).

In 1963 Welferding was incorporated into Sarreguemines .
