The Wellensteyn International GmbH & Co. KG is a German textile company based in Norderstedt , which was founded in the 1940s by Adolf Wuttke and is managed in the third generation by Thomas Wuttke.

Company history

The founder of the company was Adolf Wuttke, a Hamburg welding wire dealer who, in addition to mechanical devices for deep sea research, also sold robust parkas for shipyard workers.

Thomas Wuttke, the founder's grandson, has been with the company since 1986. In the 1990s he developed the Wellensteyn logo, a white cross on a red background similar to the Swiss coat of arms, and began to develop fashionable jackets that are now available from 1500 retailers across Germany. The company produces in China.

In 2017 the Federal Cartel Office imposed a fine of EUR 10.9 million on Wellensteyn and Peek & Cloppenburg ( Düsseldorf ) for unauthorized price fixing . The violations were committed between 2008 and 2013.
