World family meeting
World Family Meetings or World Family Days are major events of the Catholic Church for Catholic families with the aim of emphasizing the value and design possibilities of Christian family life under the conditions of the present. The main elements are church services , including a large papal mass , lectures , group work and a cultural program.
Initiative and goal setting
The origin of the world family meeting dates back to 1981, when Pope John Paul II presented the apostolic letter " Familiaris consortio " and founded the Pontifical Council for the Family . He gave the impulse to organize a world family meeting and commissioned the former Pontifical Council for the Family to initiate a major global event characterized by prayer, catechesis and joint celebrations. The organizers state that the aim of the meetings is to “celebrate the family as a divine gift and to unite families in order to pray, talk to one another, learn, share and gain knowledge of the role of Christian families as a ' house church ' and To strengthen the basis of evangelization . "Every world family meeting consists of five central manifestations:
- an international theological-pastoral congress ,
- a congress of children,
- a celebration of the Eucharist for pilgrim families,
- a solemn gathering where families share their faith experiences, and
- the closing service, presided over by the Pope or his legate , and concelebrated by cardinals , bishops and priests from all over the world .

- 5th World Meeting of Families July 1-9, 2006 in Valencia ; “Passing on the Faith in the Family”.
- 6th World Meeting of Families January 13-18, 2009 in Mexico City ; "The family, school of human and Christian values"
- 7th World Family Day June 30-3, 2012 in Milan ; "The family, the work and the party".
- 8th World Family Day 22nd - 27th 2015 in Philadelphia "Love is our mission - The family is fully alive"
- 9th World Family Day August 22-26, 2018 in Dublin ; “The gospel of the family, joy for the world”.
