Weltin Franz Anton Wolfinger (born May 12, 1926 in Montreux , Switzerland ; † July 15, 2010 in Geneva , Switzerland) was a Liechtenstein bobsledder .
Career
Weltin Wolfinger took part in the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo . In the two-man bobsleigh , he starts pushing Moritz Heidegger . However, the duo was in last place after the second of four races and therefore did not start again.
Two weeks later, the two athletes started on the Olympia Bobrun St. Moritz – Celerina . During the race the bob skidded and the track collapsed, as a result of which the bob overturned several times. Despite his helmet, Heidegger was hit hard by the bump bars on the back of the head. Wolfinger, however, only suffered minor injuries. The President of the Liechtenstein Association, Eduard Theodor von Falz-Fein , immediately drove Heidegger to the hospital in Samedan . However, Heidegger did not regain consciousness and died a few days later. Because of this, bobsleigh was temporarily banned in Liechtenstein.
Wolfinger switched to luge and took part in the 1962 Luge World Championships in Krynica-Zdrój , Poland , where he finished 75th in the single-seater.
