Moritz Heidegger (born December 4, 1932 , † February 12, 1956 in Samedan , Switzerland ) was a Liechtenstein bobsleigh driver .

Career

Moritz Heidegger, who came from Triesen , took part in the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo . In the two-man bobsleigh , he starts with his pusher Weltin Wolfinger . However, the duo was in last place after the second of four races and therefore did not start again.

Two weeks later, the two athletes started on the Olympia Bobrun St. Moritz – Celerina . During the race the bob skidded and the track collapsed, as a result of which the bob overturned several times. Despite his helmet, Heidegger was hit hard by the bump bars on the back of the head. The President of the Liechtenstein Association Eduard Theodor von Falz-Fein drove Heidegger to the hospital in Samedan immediately . However, Heidegger did not regain consciousness and died a few days later. Because of this, bobsleigh was temporarily banned in Liechtenstein.
