Wemean was a Swiss band in the tradition of the riot grrrls .
Career
The group was formed in February 1993 around the Zurich girls' meeting. In June of the same year the band won first prize at a schoolgirl band festival. The magazine portrayed the band in June 1994: "Wemean are considered to be one of the best young Swiss bands". The band consisted of the siblings Sabina and Patrizia Leone, Jenny Billeter and Silvia Ammirato.
With the Basque Negu Gorriak , Wemean went on tour in Switzerland and Germany in September 1995. In the same year the band founded the band's own label The Label , on which the debut album should be released. This was recorded in February 1996 near San Sebastian in the Basque Country. The producer was Fermin Muguruza . The album was released in Switzerland in April 1996. As a result, the band played across Europe. Concerts in Barcelona, Bilbao, Madrid, Zaragoza, Pamplona and Vienna followed the album's release in Spain and France.
In April 1997 an EP was released in the USA; the idea arose from the collaboration and friendship with the riot punk band The Mudwimin. In July of the same year the band gave two concerts in Havana , Cuba on the occasion of the International Youth Festival.
The band split in December 1998.
