The Wendel GmbH is a German medium-sized email - and glazes factory based in Dillenburg , Central Hesse . In addition to enamels and glazes, the family company also produces ceramic fries and engobes and trades in similar and related products.

History and profile

The company was founded in 1932 by Karl H. Wendel at the Dillenburg freight yard . Karl H. Wendel was an enamelling master in the Adolfshütte enamelling factory in Dillenburg- Niederscheld . As a sideline he was a naturopath and wanted to make email more health-friendly. For this he developed the first lead-free enamel.

The company conducts research and development on an ongoing basis. For example, it has developed and patented a rotary furnace with roller cooling that significantly improves the quality of the enamel. For this, it was awarded the Lahn-Dill district's innovation prize in 2001. In 2002 the company was awarded the Grand Prize for Medium-Sized Enterprises .

Wendel GmbH, managed in the fourth generation by Klaus-Achim Wendel, has subsidiaries in France , Italy and Spain . In 2015 it generated a gross profit of 12.3 million euros with 122 employees .

Based on its own information, the company is regarded as the world market leader in the field of powdered enamel. In the field of enamel production in Europe, it ranks 3rd and in Germany 1st. For roof tile glazes it has a market share of 20 percent in Germany. Customers include a. Bosch Thermotechnik , Miele and Villeroy & Boch (as of November 2016).
