Makhaya Ntini (born July 6, 1977 in Mdingi, Cape Province , South Africa ) is a former South African cricketer and the first black national cricket player in his country. In his athletic career he achieved a total of 390 wickets in test matches , making him one of the most successful bowlers in history.

At the age of 15, Ntini was discovered by a United Cricket Board talent scout.

In addition to his home country, he also played in England for Kent and Warwickshire , as well as for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League .

National team

In the 1997/98 season , Ntini played for the first time in the national team when he was only 20 years old. He made his test match debut on March 19, 1998 against Sri Lanka and made his One-Day International debut against New Zealand .

In front of more than 50,000 spectators at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban , Ntini played one last time against India on January 9, 2011 , in his 10th Twenty20 International . He had already announced at the end of 2010 that he would end his international career. Never before had so many spectators come to a cricket match on the African continent. In total, he played 101 test matches and 173 one-day internationals for the South African national cricket team.
