The Wendelinus Chapel , formerly St. Barbara , is a Roman Catholic chapel and former branch church in the Saarfels district of the Saarland community of Beckingen . It is a listed monument as a single monument.

history

The original building dates from the 15th century and was a hunting chapel of the Teutonic Order in Beckingen, its tower is probably Romanesque . In 1821 restoration work was carried out and extensive reconstruction was carried out. In 1929 and 1955 the building was restored.

architecture

The undemanding hall from the 15th century has a choir with ⅝-end and ribbed vault . The cross and the date "1821" above the lintel of the west portal bear witness to the date of the renovation. The portal is next to a tower that was pushed slightly asymmetrically into the west gable. Corner blocks adorn the portal side and the tower, simple buttress supports the long sides, each of which has two ogival windows. One window with tracery has been preserved in the choir room , another is rectangular and simple.

Furnishing

A Wendelinus figure is part of the interior of the church . In addition, a former buttress crowning with the heavily weathered relief "Man with a vine" was moved into the interior, as well as a heavily weathered relief with a crucifixion group . The neo-Gothic high altar stands on a wooden pedestal and was made of wood. There are wooden figures in the three niches. There is also a reliquary in a niche in the choir that is decorated with bespoke panels . In two ogival niches to the side of the choir arch are a statue of the Virgin and a statue of Christ.
