Weniamin Fjodorowitsch Jakowlew ( Russian Вениамин Фёдорович Яковлев ; born February 12, 1932 in Petuchowo ; † July 24, 2018 ) was a Soviet and Russian lawyer and politician .

Career

The lawyer was appointed Minister of Justice of the USSR in August 1989 and held this office until December 1990. He was then elected chairman of the newly established Supreme Arbitration Court of the USSR. After the collapse of the Soviet Union , Yakovlev was elected chairman of the Supreme Arbitration Court of Russia by the Congress of the People's Deputy of the Russian Federation. After he had reached the age limit for judges of the arbitrage court, Yakovlev was released from his office in 2005, but at the same time was appointed advisor to the president. Yakovlev held this position until his death.

Since 2003 Yakovlev was a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences . He was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland of all four classes. Yakovlev was married and had two children.
