Wenzel Josef Heller
Wenzel Josef Heller (* 1849 in Dobroměřice , Austrian Empire ; † February 3, 1914 ) was a Bohemian composer , church musician , choir director and military bandmaster .
Life
Heller studied music in Leipzig and in 1873 became the organist and choir roster of the Catholic parish church in Sibiu . His brother Franz Heller replaced him in this role in 1875. 1884–85 he was the predecessor of George Dima, head of the Sibiu men's choir. In 1885 he came to Timişoara as the military bandmaster of the 29th Loudon Infantry Regiment . In the first year he performed the overture to Richard Wagner's Tannhäuser , whose works were now on the program of almost every concert by his military band. With his military band and a choir, Heller performed excerpts from his own operetta The Engagement on Bullea Lake at the Franz Joseph Theater in Timisoara in 1890 .
Became lighter u. a. Awarded the Golden Cross of Merit , the Jubilee Commemorative Medal , the Cross of Honor Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice and the Duke of Saxony-Ernestine House Order. The composer and opera director Géza Zichy paid him his tribute during a visit to the Hungarian National Singers Festival in Timisoara in 1903.
