The " Werftinsel " (also known as "Shipyard Island" ) is an officially nameless river island in the Lower Weser near Gröpelingen in the city of Bremen . It was once a technical component of the AG-Weser shipyard .
At Unterweser kilometer 6 to the right of the fairway, the island extends over 478 meters in length and around 20 meters in width. The area is less than one hectare . At its southeastern end is the red jetty light at Überseehafen Nord, which, together with the jetty light at Überseehafen Süd, marks the approach to the trading ports .
The island is made up of poplars and is uninhabited. Since 2001, a 70 meter long footbridge has led from the forecourt of the Bremen Waterfront to the island. A path runs the entire length of the island. There are park benches everywhere along the way, at the south end there is also a seating area with several benches. The island is also popular with anglers.
