Werl-Unnaer Börde

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Werl-Unnaer Börde is a landscape and natural sub-unit of the Upper Hellweg of the main unit Hellwegbörden in the south of the Westphalian Bay in North Rhine-Westphalia . It lies in the district of the Unna and Soest districts between the Untere Hellweg , which continues the flattening to the Lippe lowlands in the north, and the Haarstrang upstream of the Sauerland mountain ranges in the south. It joins the higher part of the well-known Soester Börde immediately to the west which does not represent a strictly natural spatial unit.

The strip, which is only three to four kilometers wide in the north-south direction, rises in a southerly direction from around 80  m to around 160  m . The soil is fertile and rich in loess , which is why it is almost continuously cleared and transformed into a cultural landscape. Mainly wheat , barley and sugar beet are grown.

Location and limits

The Werl-Unnaer Börde stretches along the Hellweg , a trade and military route of the Middle Ages, from Unna to the east and beyond Werl . To the east it goes over into the Soester Oberbörde , to the west into the Dortmunder ridge (Dortmunder Börde) - both also parts of the Oberer Hellweg.

To the north, the landscape is bordered by the shallow partial landscapes of the Untere Hellweg. In the east to north of Werl, this is the Soest suburb , in the center the Kamener Flachwellenland and in the far west north of Unna the Dortmund Hellweg valley .

The significantly higher strand of hair joins to the south.

The landscape to the east of the city of Werl is commonly referred to as the Soest Börde , while the Ruhr area begins to be cultivated to the west .
