The Werner-Jaeger-Gymnasium Nettetal (WJG) is a municipal high school for boys and girls in the Lobberich district . The school is named after the philologist Werner Jaeger .

General

The Werner-Jaeger-Gymnasium in Nettetal has existed since 1882. Initially it was a feeder school for other high schools, later a Progymnasium , and since 1966 it has been a school leading to the Abitur .

After the expansion between 1991 and 1993, the school has a building equipped with all the necessary specialist rooms, which forms an architectural unit with the auditorium, the Werner-Jaeger-Halle , which is also used for municipal events . The school's showcase objects are the spacious art department, which has 16 computers, the self-study center, the triple gym and the cafeteria, which opened in 2011. Since the beginning of 2006, the school has had a student-led team of mediators available to resolve disputes. Among other things, there is also the instrumental project, which offers the opportunity to learn an orchestral instrument from grade 5, afternoon supervision for 13+, an afternoon of scientific experiments for elementary school students, various theater programs, a choir and a school orchestra.

The pupils of this grammar school come from all parts of Nettetal , including Bracht , Grefrath , Boisheim and Süchteln , some from places across the Dutch border.

In addition, every year there is the project “On the trail of the perpetrator”, in which the school's ninth grades take part.

history

School education in the Middle Ages was poor on the Lower Rhine, as you can see from the fact that the first school in Lobberich was not founded until 1618. However, since 1584, it has been possible to study foundations in a grammar school, for example in Cologne. At the Lobbericher School reading and writing were the main subjects. The pastor had the most influence on the school, as it fell into the area of "parish office activities". In 1788 a Sunday school was set up for children who had to work for their parents during the week. Reading and writing were also taught there, but also, if only to a limited extent, arithmetic. So it had the character of a so-called " elementary school ". In the course of the expansion of the Prussian educational system, the number of students, classes and teachers rose sharply in the 19th century. The first approach to high school education could be seen in 1840. In 1882 the school was founded from which the Werner-Jaeger-Gymnasium emerged. Shortly after the completion of the new school building, the school was named Werner-Jaeger-Progymnasium in 1958. In 1969 the first 10 students at what is now the Werner-Jaeger-Gymnasium passed the Abitur.
