Werner Andert
Werner Andert (born November 19, 1907 in Ebersbach / Sa. , † March 19, 1983 ibid.) Was an Upper Lusatian homeland researcher, dialect curator, folklorist and publicist.
Werner Andert was the son of local historian and geologist Hermann Andert (1879–1945) and brother of dialect poet Herbert Andert (1910–2010). The teacher worked from 1946 to 1983 as honorary director of the local history museum on the Schlechteberg . Andert continued his father's work, collected folk songs and created an index of the Upper Lusatian dialects with 14,000 handwritten entries, which is now kept by the Saxon Academy of Sciences in Leipzig. Together with August Matthes (1854–1937) he worked out guidelines for a uniform spelling of the dialect. He published his research on local history in various works and wrote dialect texts for funk.
