Werner Berndt (born July 17, 1927 , † November 2014 ) was a German football goalkeeper .

Career

The goalkeeper Werner Berndt, actually a trained left winger, played for 1. FC Kaiserslautern from 1946 to 1948 . During this time he completed 19 league games for FCK. In 1947/48 the “Red Devils” became French zone champions (8: 1 and 4: 8 against VfL Konstanz ). In both finals, Berndt guarded the FCK goal.

In 1949 he moved to VfR Kaiserslautern on the advice of Fritz Walter . In addition to playing at 1. FC Kaiserslautern, Walter was also the coach of VfR Kaiserslautern. Berndt played at VfR for a long time and made around 500 games for the club. Specifically, it was performed in the Southwest football league from 1952 to 1960 with 260 league games for the Vom Erbsenberg team. This makes him the record player for VfR Kaiserslautern.

After the end of his career in the first team of the VfR, he played in the club's AH team until 1981. Here he played again as a field player. Berndt was also the head of the tennis department of VfR Kaiserslautern and held various other offices in the club.

Werner Berndt is the son of Karl Berndt , the coach of the FCK from 1938 to 1944. Werner Berndt died in November 2014, he was 87 years old.
