Werner Eckerskorn

Werner Eckerskorn (born October 9, 1919 in Koblenz ; † May 27, 2014 in Meckenheim ) was a German veterinarian and veterinary officer.

Life

Eckerskorn passed the Abitur at the Kaiserin-Augusta-Gymnasium in Koblenz in 1937 and joined the Wehrmacht as a flag junior . From 1938 to 1941 he studied veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover . In 1941 he received his doctorate . As a veterinary officer he took part in World War II until 1945 and was then held in Soviet captivity until 1949.

After various positions, he joined the veterinary service of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1950 . From 1953 to 1955 he was the official veterinarian of the districts of Germersheim and Zweibrücken , and in 1956 he became the head of the veterinary department of the Koblenz district . In 1961 he moved to the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forests as an animal disease consultant, where from 1963 he headed the “Veterinary affairs” subdivision. Eckerskorn was appointed ministerial director in the Federal Ministry in 1969 .

From 1971 he was honorary professor at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover and from 1976 to 1979 President of the International Office for Epizootics .

His scientific topics included a. the state control of animal diseases and the trade in animals and animal products.
