Werner Edelmann

Werner J. Edelmann (born August 17, 1941 in Basel ) is a Swiss entrepreneur and was President of FC Basel from October 14, 2002 to May 9, 2006 . He lives with his wife Barbara in Wallbach im Fricktal , where they breed horses together .

Edelmann grew up in Basel and completed a commercial apprenticeship before continuing his education for a position at General Electric in the USA . He returned to Basel for this company, where he managed the Piacag company , which produces repros and cliché , for 25 years . After his early retirement, he ran a shop for Italian specialties in downtown Basel, which he had to close in 2000 due to strong competition.

On October 14, 2002, he was elected to succeed René C. Jäggi as President of FC Basel. In this position he was replaced on May 9, 2006 by the previous Vice President and Patroness Gisela Oeri .

He has 7 grandchildren, the first and the fourth of which stand out with their sporting achievements. Both play in the UHC Uster club. The older reached in the season 17/18 promotion to the highest junior league. The younger won the Praggames in 2019 with the Zurich United club.
