Werner Faulstich

Werner Faulstich (born December 28, 1946 in Fulda ; † July 8, 2019 ) was a German media scientist and has held a chair at the University of Lüneburg since 1989 .

Life

Werner Faulstich studied German , English , American , philosophy and theology . In 1973 he received his doctorate on bestsellers from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . 1981 followed his habilitation at the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen on media aesthetics . In the same year he received the license to teach media studies and English philology . In 1987 Faulstich was offered a professorship at the University of Siegen .

Werner Faulstich had held the chair for media studies in Lüneburg since 1989 and was head of the Institute for Applied Media Research (IfAM) there since 1990.

Werner Faulstich was the author of numerous textbooks and monographs on topics in media studies such as basic knowledge of media , introduction to media studies , basic knowledge of public relations , basic course film analysis , media cultures and media theories . Introduction and overview . His main focus was on media history , the everyday medium of paper and the cultural history of the 20th century.

His approach to media and their phenomena was a cultural-scientific one : "It's always about overarching contexts, about exemplary condensation between the present and tradition, about values."

Faulstich suggested in his Basic Knowledge of the Media, first published in 1994 (last reissued in 5th edition 2004), a relatively broad systematics of the media.
