Werner Heinrich Graf von Hacht zu Vierlande (born August 17, 1898 in Hamburg , † March 5, 1962 in Ratingen ) was mayor of the city of Meiningen and district administrator of the district of Meiningen .

Life

After participating in the First World War from 1915 to 1918, Graf Hacht was trained as a broker on estates in Mecklenburg and Pomerania . In 1923 he moved to Römhild and later to Meiningen, where he lived from then on, as an estate agent . Immediately after the beginning of the Second World War he was appointed lieutenant in the reserve and in 1941 he was promoted to captain. In September 1944 he was transferred to the officers' assembly camp in Wildflecken . From there he was released to Meiningen in March 1945.

After the occupation of Meiningen by the US Army on April 5, 1945, the American authorities appointed Hacht as Mayor of Meiningen on April 12, 1945, and on April 15, 1945 he was appointed District Administrator of the Meiningen District . In the months that followed, he revived the economy and community life in town and country. On July 5, 1945, the Soviet Army took over the city. On October 11, 1945 Werner von Hacht was arrested by the Soviet secret service for his work in the officers' assembly camp and sentenced in May 1950 in the Waldheim trials . During an amnesty in 1955, he was released and he then settled in Ratingen.
