Werner Hundertmark
Werner Hundertmark (born July 24, 1909 in Tsingtau ; † February 7, 1945 in Prüm ) was a German bookseller and poet.
With his skeptical attitude towards National Socialism , he was a representative of the lost generation . His strong connection to Greek antiquity and the world of thought of Stefan George manifested itself in a narrow oeuvre of often bitter sonnets .
Life
Werner Hundertmark was born in the German lease area Kiautschou ( China ), where his father Carl Hundertmark ran the Hotel Prinz Heinrich . After the First World War, the family moved to Hamburg .
Little is known about Hundertmark's training. In the 1920s he was influenced by membership in a group of the youth movement . One of his first publications was the poem Yousoufs Please , which appeared in 1933 in the great dare - German boys magazine .
In the spring of 1933 he undertook a bicycle tour lasting more than four months, which led via Vienna and Belgrade to Saloniki , Delphi and Crete .
May 1934 he signed as an employee of the long-established bookstore W. Mauke Söhne, Hamburg. In February 1936, he and Hermann Rhein took over the Henschel & Müller bookstore.
He was drafted in the summer of 1940. He had left his wife a few days before the birth of their second son and had to close the bookstore.
Hundertmark was killed in the fighting around the Eifel town of Prüm in February 1945; the details of his death are not known.
In addition to three volumes of poetry, a few printed single sheets have also appeared. His estate is stored in the Hamburg State and University Library.
