Werner G. Jeanrond

Werner Günter Jeanrond (born March 2, 1955 in Saarbrücken ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian and is professor of systematic theology with special responsibility for dogmatics at the University of Oslo .

Life

Jeanrond studied Roman Catholic theology at Saarbrücken University . In 1984 he received his PhD from the University of Chicago Divinity School . From 1981 to 1994 he worked at the School of Biblical and Theological Studies at Trinity College Dublin , Ireland . From 1995 to 2007 Jeanrond was Professor of Systematic Theology and Dean of the Faculty of Theology at Lund University in Sweden . Between 2008 and 2012 Jeanrond was Full Professor of Theology ( 1640 Chair of Divinity ) at the University of Glasgow . His main teaching areas included systematic theology, christology , ecclesiology , political theology , hermeneutics and ethics. Subsequent to this activity, between 2012 and 2018, the University of Oxford appointed him as a Masters at the Benedictine St Benet's Hall . He was also a full member of the Faculty of Theology and Religion at the University of Oxford. In addition to his teaching focus, which he already taught at the University of Glasgow, he also supervises courses in German literature . He is currently a full professor of systematic theology with special responsibility for dogmatics at the University of Oslo . He will be the first Catholic theologian to hold this post in the university's traditional Lutheran theological faculty.

Jeanrond is included in the progressive Catholic wing. He is committed to equal rights for women in church and society. Since his inauguration, he has campaigned for the admission of female students to St Benet's Hall. Jeanrond's Swedish wife is Protestant.
