Werner Kalweit

Werner Kalweit (born July 27, 1926 in Madrid ) is a German economist . From 1972 to 1989 he was Vice President of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR and from 1967 to 1990 a member of the People's Chamber .

Life

After attending elementary and secondary school with a high school diploma, the son of a worker completed a partial course as an intern from 1946 to 1949 . In 1946 he became a member of the SED , the FDGB and the FDJ . From 1949 to 1952 he studied at the German Academy for Political Science and Law "Walter Ulbricht" with a degree in economics. From 1952 he worked as a scientific assistant, later as a lecturer, prorector and dean at the University of Economics in Berlin-Karlshorst . In 1956 he was promoted to Dr. rer. oec. PhD. In 1962 he received his habilitation and was appointed professor and head of the chair for political economy at the Institute for Social Sciences (IfG) at the central committee of the SED . From 1967 to 1971 he was deputy director of the IfG. From 1967 to 1990 he was a member of the SED parliamentary group in the People's Chamber of the GDR . Since 1970 he was a member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the GDR . In 1971 he became a member of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR and from 1972 until his resignation in 1989 its vice-president.
