Werner Knapp (pedagogue)

Werner Knapp (* 1953 ) is a German educator , university professor and former rector of the Weingarten University of Education .

Life

Werner Knapp studied mathematics and German at the PH Reutlingen for teaching at primary and secondary schools. He then completed a degree in educational science at the PH Schwäbisch Gmünd . From 1977 to 1991 he worked as a primary and secondary school teacher in Sindelfingen and from 1991 to 2002 as a research assistant and lecturer at the Schwäbisch Gmünd and Ludwigsburg universities of education . In 1996 he was with the dissertation Written Narratives in a second language at the PH Schwabisch Gmund to Dr. paed. PhD.

Knapp is the father of two daughters.

Services

In 2002 he was appointed professor of German with a focus on linguistics and language didactics at the Weingarten University of Education. From 2003 to 2010 he was Dean of Faculty II and from 2010 to 2012 Prorector for Teaching and Studies. From May 2011 he was acting rector; Rector of the university from 2012 to 2018. He retired on October 1st, 2018. He is chairman of the representative assembly of the Seezeit student union, member of the board of the International Lake Constance University (IBH) and member of the International Lake Constance Council .

Knapp conducted research on didactics in German, in particular on the topics of text production, second language acquisition, second language didactics and language promotion as well as storytelling. He is editor of the textbook series Deutschprofi at Oldenbourg Schulbuchverlag and was a member of the board of the German Didactics Symposium (2004–2006 and 2008–2014).

Werner Knapp was the local chairman of the Greens in Sindelfingen (1984-1989) and ran for this party in 1988 for the state parliament.
