Werner Korte

Werner Ferdinand Korte (born May 29, 1906 in Münster ; † November 26, 1982 ibid) was a German musicologist .

Live and act

Werner Korte studied musicology in Münster, Freiburg and Berlin and received his doctorate in Berlin in 1928. From 1928 to 1931 he was an assistant at Heidelberg University . In 1932 he received his habilitation from Karl Gustav Fellerer . In the same year he was also his successor as head of the musicological seminar set up by Fritz Volbach at the University of Münster . In 1937 he was appointed associate professor. After the war, he was appointed full professor in 1946, despite a negative assessment in the denazification process. Until his retirement in 1973, he made important contributions to the city's musical life, including concerts by the University's Collegium musicum instrumentale. In the professional world he made a name for himself with studies on Bach, Beethoven, Schumann, Bruckner and Brahms.
