Werner Ladiges

Werner Ladiges (born August 15, 1910 in Hamburg ; † November 13, 1984 there ) was a German zoologist .

Life

He studied zoology in Innsbruck and Hamburg, where he received his Dr. rer. nat. received his doctorate. In the same year his book Tropical Fish and numerous articles in relevant journals appeared in the aquarium field . He performed his main activity as a scientific ichthyologist at the Hamburg Zoological Museum.

In the aquarium hobby , Werner Ladiges succeeded in making a name for himself with his influential specialist book The Fish in the Landscape . He is also known to aquarists for the Celebes earfish ( Telmatherina ladigesi , today Marosatherina ladigesi ), which he discovered in 1935 and named after him, as well as for the peaceful fighting fish Betta imbellis, which he described in 1975 . For several years, Ladiges was the editor of the popular aquarium magazine TI - facts and information from aquaristics , which was published by the publishing house of the accessories manufacturer Tetra-Werke Ulrich Baensch GmbH in Melle .
