Werner Hans-Heinrich Wilhelm Lange (born June 10, 1917 in Hamburg-Altona , † October 2, 1979 in Uetersen ) was a German miller and entrepreneur. He is an honorary citizen of the city of Uetersen and the last owner of the Langes Mühle property .

Life

For a long time, the businessman and miller Werner Lange, together with his brother Alexander Lange (1909–1984), ran the company JP Lange Söhne in Altona, which his grandfather Peter August Lange founded together with his brother Heinrich Adolph in 1873. In 1953 Werner Lange moved to Uetersen, where he lived on the property of the former Langen Mühle. Six generations of the Lange family ground flour here between 1738 and 1904.

His inheritance contract, signed in June 1979, states that the entire property including the 27 hectare Langes Tannen mixed forest , the house, a barn and a few outbuildings will become the property of the city of Uetersen. The then mayor and friend of Lange Waldemar Dudda persuaded him to make this decision. It was Werner Lange's wish that the property be made accessible to the public as a recreation area. The over 250 year old mansion was to be converted into a museum. Original everyday objects belonging to the family are shown, but there is also a report on the history of Lange's mill. For this generous inheritance he was awarded both the honor coin and the honorary citizenship on September 15, 1979 . Werner Lange died only 17 days later, on October 2, 1979. He is buried in the new cemetery in Uetersen.
