Werner Müller (born March 15, 1937 ) is a former German soccer player. For Rotation Babelsberg he played in 1958 in the GDR Oberliga , the highest league in GDR football .

Athletic career

In the second half of the 1958 season (calendar year game rhythm), Klaus Selignow, previously used as a striker, fell out of the company sports community (BSG) Rotation Babelsberg for the rest of the top division season. He was replaced by the 21-year-old Werner Müller, who had previously had no first division experience. Babelsberg's trainer Helmut Jacob experimented with his newcomer for a long time and initially brought him onto the field twice as a substitute. Afterwards, Müller was always in the starting line-up with one exception until the end of the season, but swung back and forth between attack and midfield until matchday 22. Only in the last four matchdays had Jacob found Müller's final position with the right side of midfield. This meant that Müller had made thirteen league appearances this season, but was unable to score a goal. The BSG rotation ended the season as relegated in the GDR league . Werner Müller was a regular player there in the 1959 and 1960 seasons and only missed four out of 52 league games. In 1959 he scored one goal, the following season he scored two goals.

On January 1, 1961, the first soccer team of the BSG Rotation Babelsberg was transferred to the newly founded SC Potsdam , which took over the GDR league place. GDR football returned to the summer-spring rhythm, and 39 games had to be played in the GDR league from February 1961 to June 1962. Werner Müller lost his regular place in the squad, which was expanded by several newcomers. In the first season in Potsdam he made twelve league appearances, after which he only played two or nine times. Instead, he was mainly used in the 2nd team, which he helped in 1962 to the district championship and promotion to the third-class II. GDR league . It was not until 1964/65 that he was called up again in 16 league games in the 30 league games and scored his only two goals for SC Potsdam. After that, Werner Müller only ended his career as a competitive footballer at the age of 28.
