Werner Maltry (born January 14, 1931 in Berlin ; † January 25, 2017 in Potsdam ) was a German agricultural engineer.

After graduating from high school, he completed an apprenticeship as a toolmaker in the Wanderer works in Chemnitz and studied from 1953 to 1957 at what was then the TH Dresden with a specialization in "Thermodynamics" with Norbert Elsner (1917-2001). In June 1957 he started at what was then the Institute for Agricultural Engineering Potsdam-Bornim of the German Academy of Agricultural Sciences (DAL) in Berlin, now the Institute for Agricultural Engineering Potsdam-Bornim (ATB), under Director Sylvester Rosegger and initially worked on the grain drying.

In 1961 he received his doctorate with the thesis Determination of some drying physical properties of wheat and their thermodynamic evaluation in an i, X drying diagram .

As an honorary professor at the engineering college for agricultural technology in Berlin-Wartenberg , he taught the fundamentals of thermodynamics for more than 20 years . He later devoted himself to the basics of air conditioning and storage of fruit, vegetables and potatoes. He was appointed to the scientific council and board of directors of the Max Eyth Institute for Agricultural and Environmental Technology Potsdam- Bornim .

After the successor institution Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering was founded in 1992 , he headed the processing, storage and conservation department until his retirement in 1996 .

In 1993 he became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry.

He determined the center of Brandenburg near the Fahrländer See .

Maltry died at the age of 86.
