Bornim is a district of the Brandenburg capital Potsdam and is located in Potsdam-Nord bordering the Bornstedt and Nedlitz districts on the B 273 .

The Sacrow-Paretzer Canal runs north of the village .

history

In 1335 the estate was designated as a property of the Groebens. The village has changed hands frequently since the 14th century, with Achim von Hake holding the fiefdom around 1435. A line of this ancient noble family was called "Hack von Bornimb", which then also became established in Austria. In 1663 Bornim became the domain of the Great Elector, who laid a garden there in 1664 and a summer residence from 1672–1677. The pleasure palace could be reached via the Tyrolergräben, which artificially created led from the Sacrow-Paretz Canal to the palace. From 1756 the castle was demolished. The foundation and the Tyrolean trenches are still partially preserved. Friedrich II. And his successors used the area for military maneuvers. Today's village church, built by Ludwig von Tiedemann , was inaugurated by Wilhelm II in 1902 . In 1912 the perennial grower Karl Foerster laid out the Karl Foerster Garden on a 5000 m² field in Bornim , which is still one of the main attractions of the place today. In 1935 Bornim was incorporated into Potsdam.

Bornim is connected to downtown Potsdam via several bus routes .

The federal road 273 runs through the village, which enables a quick connection to the federal motorway 10 via the Potsdam-Nord exit . Bundesstrasse 2 is located west of Bornim .

Worth seeing

In the center of the village, a memorial commemorates those who died in the First World War . The grounds of the Karl Foerster Garden are now part of the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering Bornim , which was founded by Sylvester Rosegger in 1952 as the Institute for Agricultural Engineering. Bornim also has a culture house built by Rolf Göpfert .
