Siegward Sprotte (born April 20, 1913 in Potsdam , † September 7, 2004 in Kampen on Sylt ) was a German painter and writer.

Life

Siegward Sprotte, son of the Potsdam post office man Walther Sprotte and his wife Frieda, b. Henning, graduated from the Realgymnasium in Potsdam in 1931. After taking private figurative drawing lessons with Adolf Dahle in August and September 1931, he studied at the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin (until 1938), with Emil Orlik , Kurt Wehlte and Maximilian Klewer , among others . There was a close friendship with the Brandenburg painter Karl Hagemeister (1848–1933).

His paintings met with considerable interest in the period from 1931; In 1937 his father joined the NSDAP. He was represented at the Great German Art Exhibition in 1939, 1941 (also in the exchange exhibition ), 1942 and 1944 with a total of 10 works. Hitler bought a picture of him in 1939. His works were very well received after 1945.

A lifelong friendship linked him with the gardener and perennial grower Karl Foerster , who had lived in Potsdam- Bornim since 1911 . Sprotte lived in Potsdam-Bornstedt until 1945. From 1945 he spent half of the year in Kampen on the island of Sylt , where his workshop and exhibition studio were also located. His annual work rhythm alternated from north and south between Kampen, Berlin and Potsdam as well as Italy , France , Portugal and Madeira .

His wife Cosmea gave birth to their son Armin in 1960, who currently runs the Falkenstern Fine Art & Atelier Sprotte gallery in Kampen. Together with his mother, he manages part of the Sprotte estate that does not belong to the foundation. Since 1992 there has been a foundation in Potsdam-Bornstedt called the Siegward-Sprotte-Foundation for simultaneous research into education and speaking.

Siegward Sprotte was significantly shaped by encounters with important personalities. These include: Hermann Kasack , Eugen Herrigel , Jiddu Krishnamurti , David Bohm , HLC Jaffé (1915–1984), Herbert Read , Philippe d'Arschot , Will Grohmann , Pierre Bertaux , Hermann Hesse , José Ortega y Gasset , Karl Jaspers , Jean Gebser , Wolfgang Schadewaldt , Herbert von Garvens , Heinz-Wolfgang Kuhn , Erich Heckel , Karl Schmidt-Rottluff , Emil Nolde , Rolf Nesch and Hans Hartung . 1956 was the first meeting with Jiddu Krishnamurti. For 50 years he organized the "Kampener Atelier Talks".

Sprotte wrote numerous writings on the subjects of art, consciousness and the present, the new paradigm "eye to eye".

On the Bornstedter cemetery Siegward sprat has found his final resting place.

Sprotte initially painted representationally, including portraits of the old masters , drawings, etc. a. by Hermann Hesse , Jean Gebser , José Ortega y Gasset . Later he devoted himself more to the landscape itself, including ideograms and colored calligraphies . The subjects are rarely meant locally. His work includes watercolors , gouaches, drawings, oils.
