Otto Eglau

Otto Eglau (born April 20, 1917 in Berlin-Karlshorst ; † February 23, 1988 in Kampen ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

After graduating from high school, Otto Eglau was called up for military service and was taken prisoner, from which he was released in 1947. He began studying at the Berlin School of Fine Arts with Oskar Nerlinger , Max Kaus and Wolf Hoffmann . In 1953 he became a lecturer in the architecture faculty at the Technical University of Berlin at the chair for free painting and drawing. Extensive study trips from 1951 to 1970 took him to Spain, Rhodes, Greece, Portugal, Sweden, Tunisia, Japan, Hong Kong, Macao, New York and Norway. From 1962 to 1963 he stayed in Japan and, as part of the German-Norwegian cultural agreement , in Ekely , Oslo . In 1970 he received a scholarship from the Goethe Institute in Munich to study in Nepal. From 1969 to 1976 he was professor for etching at the International Summer Academy for Fine Arts in Salzburg. 1983–1988 he worked in studios in Berlin, on Sylt and in his own etching workshop at Lietzensee in Berlin.

Otto Eglaus work has been shown in more than 100 solo exhibitions, including a. Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Kyoto, Tunis, Cairo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Liverpool, Salzburg, New Delhi, Calcutta, Kathmandu, Bucharest, San Francisco. There were also more than 120 group exhibitions.
