Werner Niefer

Werner Niefer (born August 26, 1928 in Plochingen ; † September 12, 1993 in Stuttgart ) was a German automobile manager and from 1989 to 1993 Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz AG .

education

From 1943 to 1946, Niefer completed an apprenticeship as a toolmaker at Daimler-Benz AG , and from 1948 to 1951 at the Esslingen mechanical engineering school .

Positions

In 1952 he joined Daimler-Benz's large engine construction department in Untertürkheim as a production engineer. In 1958 he went to Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH in Friedrichshafen to become operations manager. In 1962 he took over the management of Maybach Mercedes-Benz Motorenbau GmbH . In 1976 he became head of production and a member of the Board of Management of Daimler-Benz AG, responsible for all domestic and foreign plants. In Sindelfingen, he increased the daily output in production to 1,600 cars, built the production line for the successful W 124 model series as well as a press and paint shop and changed the production technology with the construction of a new light transporter in 1977. With the W201 compact class series , the 190 series , Niefer expanded the passenger car range to three series in 1982. From 1987 he was on the Board of Management of the Passenger Cars Division and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler-Benz AG and from 1989 to 1993 Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz AG. Niefer died shortly after retiring from professional life at the age of 65.

Others

Werner Niefer is the "father" of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class W 140 . It was the first vehicle that Mercedes-Benz AG, founded in 1989, presented under his leadership.
