Werner Schubert (politician)

Werner Schubert (born June 19, 1908 in Jena , † after 1988) was a German resistance fighter against National Socialism , economic functionary and politician ( SED ). From 1954 to 1958 he was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR .

Life

Schubert attended elementary school and completed an apprenticeship as a toolmaker. He was already doing active political work in the Weimar Republic and became a member of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) in 1927 . During the Hitler dictatorship from 1941 to 1944 he took part in the illegal resistance struggle in the Magnus Poser group .

After the Second World War he became a member of the SED in 1946. He initially worked as a foreman, attended evening courses at the adult education center and became operations manager at VEB Carl Zeiss Jena . From 1954 to 1958 he was a member of the SED parliamentary group and a member of the People's Chamber . As director of the VEB Jenaer Glaswerke Schott & Gen. he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze in June 1968 .

On October 4, 1984, he took part in a meeting of fighters against fascism in East Berlin , to which the SED General Secretary Erich Honecker had invited. Most recently he was a member of the district committee of the anti-fascist resistance fighters Gera and chairman of the Jena district committee.
