Oswald Rommel senior (* 1844 ; † 1924 ) was a German sculptor .

family

Oswald Rommel was the son of the artist and librarian of the later Leibniz University Ernst Rommel and the father of the sculptors Oswald Rommel junior (* 1878) and Elsbeth Rommel (* 1879).

Career

Oswald Rommel studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in the 1860s . Later he settled in Hanover .

According to a note in the announcement of the association of former students of the Realgymnasium dated December 20, 1933, "[...] a large part of the artistic decoration on the New Town Hall " in Hanover would have been "[...] the last work" by Oswald Rommel , however, until 2013 there was no further evidence to support this statement.

    • Figure decorations at the Villa Coppel, built for the banker Simon Coppel, at Emmichplatz 4 at the corner of Schiffgraben
    • Villas at Schiffgraben 53 and Schiffgraben 57
  • The facade decoration on the former Bartels bank at Rathenaustraße 3 , built around 1900 by the architect Friedrich Geb , while the figurative decoration by Rommel was only added when the roof zone was rebuilt in 1910
