Career

Born in the royal seat of the then Kingdom of Hanover , which was long orphaned due to the personal union between Great Britain and Hanover , Ernst Rommel studied at the Hanoverian teachers' college . However, after he had religious doubts, he did not pursue the career of a teacher, but initially worked as a typesetter .

When the future heir to the throne Georg V married his future Queen Marie of Saxony-Altenburg in 1843 , typesetter Rommel was one of the first to congratulate the couple, who offered the couple poems and gifts.

In the revolutionary years of 1848 and 1849 Rommel worked as a stenographer for the Hanoverian Estates Assembly and at the same time as editor of the Hanover State Parliament Gazette . He also worked from 1847 to 1849 as a travel agent for the Historical Association for Lower Saxony .
