Life

Werner Steininger was born in Heiden in 1949. 1965–1968 he did an apprenticeship as an instrument optician. His love for the mountains became evident a few years later in the form of a mountain guide training course in 1973. Four years later, from 1978 to 1980, he trained as a craftsman at the Zurich School of Applied Arts . 1982 followed his curative education diploma at the HPS. Steininger spent 1986–1990 in India and undertook an expedition to the Himalayas , where he devoted himself to painting. Since 1991 he has been working again in Switzerland in his art studio in Gais, teaching adults and children in his painting courses and working as a freelance mountain guide.

painting

Steininger's works are difficult to classify, but most likely to abstract painting . The abstract landscape painting represents a strong position in all of his works, which shows his passion for nature and mountains. Werner Steininger is sometimes referred to as a representative of the Ausserrhoder cultural landscape; thus his works of art show partly traditional folk components as well as more progressive contemporary cuts. His works mainly describe abstract landscapes and objects.

Steininger is a trained painting teacher and passes on his knowledge in painting courses.

In 2009 a monograph entitled "Werner Steininger - Painting" was published on the occasion of the solo exhibition from 23 May to 3 June in the Herisau cultural center (old arsenal) and on the occasion of his 60th birthday on the initiative of the Werner Steininger Circle of Friends . Werner Steininger is a member of the Swiss Mountain Painters Guild . In 1991 and 1993 he won first prize at the annual exhibitions of the Guild of Swiss Mountain Painters .
