Werner Strecker

Werner Strecker (born November 26, 1885 in Rostock , † September 14, 1961 in Schwerin ) was a German archivist .

Life

He came from a family of glassmakers that had lived in Hesse and studied history and philosophy in Heidelberg and Berlin. In the summer semester of 1904 he enrolled at the University of Rostock . In 1912 he received his doctorate with a dissertation on the foreign policy of Albrecht II of Mecklenburg . After that he worked for a short time in the school service. In 1914 he joined the Grand Ducal Secret and Main Archive in Schwerin as a research assistant, and from 1917 as an archivist, in the newly completed building, today's Landesarchiv Schwerin , whose archive director he succeeded Stuhr in 1934. At his own request, he resigned on April 30, 1953 as head of the Mecklenburg Archives Inspection and director of the Mecklenburg State Main Archives and retired at the age of 68.

Werner Strecker was a member of the Association for Mecklenburg History and Archeology, whose second secretary and later second director he was for many years. In this role he was u. a. involved in the publication of the Mecklenburg Yearbooks, for which he contributed several articles on regional history.

Werner Stecker was also active as a poet. He wrote poetry, ballads, and even a play.
