Werner Tack

Werner Tack (born November 4, 1935 in Dortmund ) is a German professor emeritus for psychology at the University of Saarland . The focus of his scientific work is cognitive psychology and cognitive science .

Life

He studied at the University of Hamburg , graduated in psychology in 1961 and was awarded a doctorate in 1964. phil. PhD . From 1961 to 1970 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Hamburg, before changing to professor at the University of Regensburg in 1970 . In 1971 he was appointed professor of psychology at Saarland University and held this chair until his retirement in 2004.

From 1977 to 1979 he was vice dean of the “Social and Environmental Sciences” department at Saarland University and from 1984 to 1986 he was the first vice president of Saarland University.

Tack worked as a visiting scholar in 1975/76 at the “Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study”, in 1981 at the “Institute of Behavioral Sciences” at Hokkaidō University in Sapporo , in 1984 at the University of Tbilisi and in 1987 at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin.

Tack dealt with the subject areas “cognitive modeling and methodology”, “knowledge acquisition and use” and game theory . However, he has done little research himself; the list of publications, which he put on the web himself, shows that from around 40 he was almost only involved in proceedings with him in the senior author position, but that he has hardly published any of his own research publications.

In contrast, he was successful as a science manager. He was involved in the acquisition of several research projects, among other things he headed the DFG project "KNAC: Knowledge Acquisition and Use of Knowledge" from 1996 to 2001 . He was a founding member and chairman of the Wilhelm Wundt Society from 1979 to 1989 and founding chairman of the Society for Cognitive Science from 1994 to 1996. He was also a member of various specialist commissions; Among other things, from 1995 to 1997 he chaired the "Distance Learning Commission" of the Federal-State Commission for Educational Planning and Research Funding and from 1980 to 1985 he was chairman of the Psychology Study Reform Commission of the "Standing Commission for Higher Education Reform" of the West German Rectors' Conference and the Conference of Ministers of Education ( KMK).
