Werner Daughtermann (2008)

Werner Tochtermann (* thirtieth May 1934 in Pforzheim ) is a German chemist and emeritus professors . From 1976 until his retirement in 1999 he was Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel . His field of work was the chemistry of medium and large rings, the synthesis of cyclophanes and the heteroquadricyclane → heteropine rearrangement, e.g. B. for the transformation of furans to oxepines (also known as Prinzbach- Daughtermann sequence). His son is Klaus daughter man .

Life

From 1953 to 1960 he studied chemistry at the Universities of Münster and Heidelberg , and wrote his dissertation under the direction of Nobel Prize winner Georg Wittig . After postdoctoral research as assistant to his academic teacher, he began his own research in 1962 in the field of seven-membered ring systems. In 1965 he was appointed private lecturer at the University of Heidelberg and in 1972 he was appointed to an AH4 professorship for chemistry in the technical trade at the Technical University of Darmstadt . From 1976 until his retirement in 1999 he was a full professor at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel in the following fields:

  • New ways to medium and large rings (targeted synthesis of fragrances)
  • Use of ultrasound for organic synthesis ( Barbier , Lemieux and Wittig reaction )
  • Synthesis of unnatural carbohydrate analogues (bridged deoxyfuranosides and furanoses, disaccharides, nucleosides, glycolipids)
  • Stereoselective synthesis of perhydroazulenes (lactarans, tremulare, merulans)
  • Strained benzene derivatives (cyclophanes) and ansa compounds
